Kansas Stars load up for The 83rd NBC World Series Powered by Westar Energy

WICHITA,KS–The Kansas Stars have a championship trophy on their minds with the roster announced by Nate Robertson and Adam LaRoche, gearing up for The 83rd NBC World Series powered by Westar Energy.

The core roster includes some of the same Kansans from a year ago, the Stars have also added to the stable with a lengthy list of accomplished pitchers. Returning from 2016 are Stars from Kansas like Robertson, LaRoche, and Wichita State alum Koyie Hill. Hurlers Tim Hudson, Jeremy Guthrie, and Heath Bell are back as well.

Joining the group is former Atlanta Braves third-basemen Chipper Jones, who becomes eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown this winter.

Coming in to bolster the pitching staff is Roy Halladay, a two time Cy Young Award winner, 8 time All-Star and World Series Champion with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Four-time All-Star Kenny Rogers will also join the pitching staff along with 3-time World Series Champion Jake Peavy.

The Stars begin play on July 29th, with games on July 31st and August 2nd as well. Advancing out of their pool would put them in a Quarterfinal matchup on August 4th. Winning the rest of the way would give them a semi-final game on August 5th, and the championship game is Sunday, August 6th.

Westar Energy powers 83rd NBC World Series

WICHITA, Kan. – The 83^rd National Baseball Congress World Series will be powered by Westar Energy, thanks to a contribution from Westar in support of the National Baseball Congress. The NBC World Series, which draws teams from all over the United States, is a perennial tradition in Wichita.

“If you’ve spent any time at all in or around Wichita, you know how much we value the NBC World Series in this community,” said Jeff Beasley, Westar Energy’s vice president of customer care. “We’re excited to support this year’s Series and to help build Wichita’s reputation as a premier baseball city.”

The agreement brings together two longstanding pillars in the community of Wichita. Westar Energy, which provides safe, clean, reliable power to 700,000 customers, was founded in 1909 and invests monetary and volunteer support in the communities it serves.

The National Baseball Congress was founded in 1931 and play began with the National Baseball Congress State Tournament that same year. The roots of the current format go back to the first World Series being played four years later in 1935. Together, the two organizations have been community leaders combined for nearly 200 years.

“It’s a great partnership for both parties,” says NBC General Manager/Tournament Director Kevin Jenks. “We were looking for an organization that believes and supports the mission and values of our organization and the World Series. Iowa to Represent USA at The 83rd NBC World Series

WICHITA, Kan. — The USA National Team, represented by the University of Iowa baseball team, is coming to Wichita and will compete in Championship Week of the 83rd NBC World Series, July 29–August 6. The Hawkeyes were selected by USA Baseball to represent the United States at the World University Games in Tapei, Taiwan, in August.

The Hawkeyes won 39 games during the 2017 season, claimed their first Big Ten Tournament title, and qualified for a second NCAA Regional in three seasons under Iowa head coach Rick Heller. The team hit 71 home runs and posted a .284 team batting average.

“When we were approached by USA Baseball,” says NBC World Series General Manager/Tournament Director Kevin Jenks “The opportunity of having the USA National Team/Iowa Hawkeyes play in the premier summer showcase for college-age amateur players, we knew it was a no-brainer. We’re thrilled to have coach Heller bring the Hawkeyes to Wichita to compete against the best.”

This is the fifth time a US National Team has played in the NBC World Series. Team USA played in 1995 and 1999. The NJCAA National Team played in 2014 and 2016.

“This will be an excellent opportunity for our team to compete before we head to Taiwan for the World University Games,” said Heller. “We’re grateful that the NBC has awarded us this opportunity.”

The USA National Team will begin pool play at the 83rd NBC World Series on Sunday, July 30 and continue with games on Tuesday, August 1, and Thursday, August 3. Should the USA National Team qualify out of pool play, it could potentially play on August 4-5 and eventually in the National Championship on August 6.

Attendance Numbers Released for 2016 NBC World Series

National Baseball Congress attendance figures soar past previous year; Kansas Stars show generosity toward charity and teams.

55,137 people and fans from all over the United States converged upon historic Lawrence-Dumont Stadium this past August to witness one of the most unique and longstanding sports traditions Wichita has to offer. The number shows a 25% increase in attendance over last year.

“On behalf of the National Baseball Congress, we are thrilled with the tournament and the excitement it brought to the city, further cementing its place as one of the top sports and entertainment events in Wichita,” said Tournament Director & General Manager Kevin Jenks. “We thank our fans and everyone involved with the World Series for their overwhelming support.”

As many descended upon the 82 year-old Lawrence-Dumont Stadium to watch 25 of the best baseball players to ever play the game, the Kansas Stars were doing their part to give back to the community. The 3^rd place prize money they accumulated of $2,000 will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The Kansas Stars did not stop there, however. They donated all proceeds from the Davis-Moore autograph session back to the other 15 competing teams from Championship Week to help cover travel/food/lodging expenses. In total, they gave back $12,525. More specifically, each team received $835 on top of what they earned playing, per the generosity of the Kansas Stars and Davis-Moore.

“The Kansas Stars wanted to come together and do something of substance for the young players who were traveling a path each of them have traveled,” said Nate Robertson, former MLB pitcher and resident of Wichita. “With that thought in mind the entire team decided to participate in an autograph session in conjunction with the NBC and donate all proceeds to the other 15 teams in the tournament to assist with their team travel expense.”

“What a great gesture by the MLB players to give back to not only the Muscular Dystrophy Association but also to the teams that participated in the 2016 NBC World Series,” said Santa Barbara Foresters manager Bill Pintard. “First Class all the way. Thank you Kansas Stars!”

Wichita, KS— The National Baseball Congress is excited to announce the new NBC Fan Club for the upcoming 81st NBC World Series.

This opportunity gives fans unique experiences and benefits during the World Series, July 24-Aug. 8.

Included in the membership is an NBC Fan Club performance T-Shirt, 10 lower box flex tickets, $10 in NBC Concession Bucks. Plus, members will receive access to exclusive team, player and Hall of Fame meet and greet opportunities during the tournament. NBC Fan Club memberships are priced at $75.

Kevin Jenks, NBC World Series general manager, expressed his excitement about the new fan club.

“We want to build an opportunity that gives the fans the feeling of ownership with the National Baseball Congress and their beloved World Series,” Jenks said. “So many of our fans support us year-in, and year-out, it’s time for them to feel rewarded for their loyalty.”

In addition to the membership, members who volunteer for three games during the World Series receive 40-percent off gift shop purchases and 25-percent off NBC fundraising entry fees and events.

However, the NBC Fan Club is not the only way fans or individuals can get involved by volunteering. The tournament depends heavily on the work and effort of volunteers, this year’s tournament being no different.

The NBC World Series also unveiled the new ticket pricing for this year’s summer tournament.

Ticket packages are significantly lower than in years past. Prices are as follows:

Baseball ‘Round The Clock

The Nicole Kirk-Baseball ‘Round The Clock returns for the 26th straight year and is slated for July 31-Aug. 2.

Entry is $20 while, any fan with a World Series Pass will only be charged $5. Fans this yearhave thechance to compete for a cash prize upon completing and winning the marathon event.

The contest spans 17 games over the three day stretch, beginning with the 4 p.m. game Friday, July 31, and finally concluding with the 10 p.m. game Sunday evening.

NBC Forms Partnership With D-BAT For Upcoming World Series

The National Baseball Congress proudly announces D-BAT as the official wood bat sponsor for the 81st NBC World Series.

D-BAT, which produces elite professional model wood bats, will provide team bats for the summer showcase, slated to begin July 24.

NBC tournament director and general manager Kevin Jenks expressed his respect and excitement about the opportunity.
