Mile High Collegiate Baseball League
The Cyclones are the five-time defending league champions from 2015-19 in the Mile High Collegiate League, coming up with a top five finish and named Best Defensive team at the 2018 NBC World Series. Colorado is currently 13-2 in the 2020 season and have been top contenders in their past NBC World Series appearances.
Colorado finished ninth in 2019, going 2-2 and was granted an at-large bid. They finished fifth in 2018 after being a First Week advancer for its best finish. They Cyclones are 14-9 in five previous appearances, three resulted in top 12 finishes. In 2018, the pitching staff combined for a 3.28 earned run average and came up with 222 putouts good for the second-highest among tournament teams.
The Cyclones are based out of Northern Colorado, playing all of their home games at Nelson Farms in Johnstown, Colo. Jeff Buchanan serves as the owner and general manager and the head coach of the Cyclones is J.L. Buchanan, assisted by Shane Dyer and Grant Buchanan.

HUTCHINSON, KS – Ryan Sullivan’s bottom of the 10th walk-off single lifted the Colorado Cyclones to a 5-4 victory over the Hattiesburg, MS Black Sox in the first round of the NBC World Series powered by Evergy on Monday afternoon at Hobart-Detter Field. 

Sullivan led the Cyclones’ offense with a 3-for-5 day at the plate, with JT Hall also coming up with three hits in five at-bats for the Black Sox. Colorado starting pitcher Justin Kleinsorge struck out four batters in five innings of work while Hattiesburg starter Clyde Kendrick came up with six strikeouts in 5.2 innings on the mound. 

The Black Sox struck first in the top of the first inning, scoring three runs off a Pablo Lanzarote home run. Two fielder’s choices allowed the Cyclones to make it 3-2 through seven innings before a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning allowed the Black Sox to extend their lead to two runs. 

A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning and a balk allowed the Cyclones to tie the game at 4-4 and force extra innings, with Sullivan coming up with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 10th. 

The Cyclones face the Cheney Diamond Dawgs on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Eck Stadium in Wichita. The Black Sox will play on Wednesday at Eck Stadium, with their opponent and game time is still to be determined.

WICHITA, Kan. – The Cheney, KS Diamond Dawgs advanced in the 2020 NBC World Series powered by Evergy with a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Cyclones on Tuesday at Eck Stadium.

Andrew Stewart led the Diamond Dawgs with two hits in three at-bats while Blake Mattey came up with three hits and two RBIs for the Cyclones.

The Diamond Dawgs struck first in the bottom of the third inning following two singles, scoring two runs off a sacrifice fly by Corrigan Bartlett. A bases-loaded hit by pitch allowed the Cyclones to score a run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Diamond Dawgs scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend its lead 5-1.

The Cyclones managed to score two more runs in the top of the eighth inning, but the Diamond Dawgs forced a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the ninth to seal the victory.

The Diamond Dawgs will play the winner between Lonestar, TX and the Hays, KS Larks on Thursday in Wichita. The Cyclones will play the Rose Hill, KS Sluggers at 6 p.m. in Wichita.

WICHITA, Kan. – Behind a walk-off home run by Wichita State’s Hunter Gibson, the Rose Hill, KS Sluggers defeated the Colorado Cyclones 9-7 in the 2020 NBCWS powered by Evergy on Wednesday night at Eck Stadium.

Gibson led the Sluggers with a 3-for-5 outing and two RBIs, with four total players recording multi-hit games for Rose Hill. Ryan Sullivan led the Cyclones with four hits in six at-bats to go with three RBIs.

After the Cyclones took the opening lead in the top of the first inning, the Sluggers opened the gap with a five-run bottom of the first inning. Mason Hartman hit a leadoff triple before Ryan Koval smashed a home run to give the Sluggers the 2-1 lead. Two singles allowed another run to score for the Sluggers, with two bases loaded walks allowing two more runs to cross home plate.

The Sluggers added an insurance run in the bottom of the second inning, but a sacrifice fly from Jake Haze and three-run home run from Ryan Sullivan cut the Cyclones’ deficit to one through the middle of the sixth inning. The Cyclones tied it up in the top of the seventh inning before the Sluggers responded to retake the lead a half-inning later, with Wichita State’s Ross Cadena scoring off a sacrifice fly following a lead-off double.

Jason Ajamian came up with a left field double in the top of the eighth inning for the Cyclones, with Wyatt Featherston driving in the tying run with a double in the next at-bat to make it a 7-7 game. Following a single by Ryan Koval, Gibson sealed the win with his two-run home run.

The Sluggers will take on either the Houston, TX Express or the Lonestar, TX Baseball Club on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Hutchinson.
