WICHITA, Kansas -- All eight remaining tems left in the NBC Midwest Regional played on Monday with two elimination and two winner's bracket games.
The first elimination game, at 10am, was an extra-inning affair between the Salina Blue Jays and Kansas Cannons, with Salina coming away with a 3-2 win in ten-innings. The Blue Jays Brandon Monahan threw 8 strong innings giving up two runs while scattering four hits and recording 7 k's. Brian Sipe drove in Mitch Meyer in the top of the tenth which proved to be the game winner. Salina advances to play the loser of the El Dorado Broncos and Derby Twins on Tuesday at 4pm, while the Cannon's qualifying hopes come to an end.
In the second elimination of the day it was the Wichita Wheatkings moving on with an 8-0 win eliminating the Hutchinson Monarchs. Wheatkings second baseman Tanner Carpenter was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day with three runs scored. The Wheatkings will face the loser of the Haysville Heat and Park City Rangers on Tuesday at 1pm.
Four teams remained unbeaten heading into Monday. Last years Midwest Regional Champion, Haysville, moved one step closer to defending their title with a 9-0 run rule win in seven innings over the Park City Rangers. The Heat's shortstop, Shocker Walker Davidson, led their run parade with a 4-for-4 performance driving two runs. With the win Haysville advances to the winner's bracket finals on Tuesday while Park City drops to the loser's bracket and will take on the Wichita Wheatkings in the 1pm game Tuesday.
The night cap saw the second extra inning game of the day between the Derby Twins and El Dorado Broncos. With the game tied at three heading into the 10th both teams traded runs in the 10th to stay knotted up at four a piece. It stayed that way till the 12th when the Twins scored two runs on their way to the 6-4 win. El Dorado drops into the loser's bracket to play the Salina Blue Jays Tuesday in the 4pm elimination game. Derby remains undefeated and will face the Haysville Heat in the finals of the winners bracket at 7pm, in which the winner will be guaranteed a check for $2,600 and a spot in Thursday's Championship.
