« Back to News

WICHITA, KS – Liberal (KS) Bee Jays defeated the Austin (TX) Gold Sox 8-1, Saturday on El Mexico Café Buy Out Night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Liberal took a four run lead in the top of the first inning aided by four Gold Sox errors and never looked back.

Edwin Arroyo, Bee Jays second baseman, led the way with a three for five performance at the plate, scoring two of the Bee Jays’ eight runs.  Arroyo, a native of Puerto Rico, described his team’s offensive strategy as “aggressive.”

Tyler Gipson of the Gold Sox was two for three with one RBI, while teammate Greg Coppens added two hits in the loss.

The Bee Jays advance in the winner’s bracket and will play Thursday.  Austin will now have to battle through the losers bracket to keep any hopes alive of their first ever national championship.
