Jordan Stewart did his part on the rubber, but it wasn't enough to carry the Austin Gold Sox to a win on Wednesday, as the Austin Gold Sox (0-1) fell to the Santa Barbara Foresters (1-0) 2-1 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in 10 innings.
The Santa Barbara Foresters couldn't get anything going as long as Stewart was on the mound. The Santa Barbara Foresters managed just one hit off of Stewart, who allowed one earned run, walked three and struck out three during his eight innings of work.
Nick Palewicz allowed no earned runs, three hits and one walk while striking out four over eight innings of work.
Weston Hall pushed the Santa Barbara Foresters ahead, in the tenth inning, and the lead lasted until the final out. Zach Fish to start the tenth. He then went from first to second on a groundout by Shane Hoelscher. Finally, Hall came to the plate with the score tied at one, and singled, plating Fish.
TJ McGreevy, Wichita State Shocker, recorded his first win of the NBCWS for the Santa Barbara Foresters. McGreevy struck out none, walked none and gave up no hits.
Jason Zgardowski couldn't get it done on the hill for the Austin Gold Sox, taking a loss. He threw one inning in relief, walked one, struck out one, and allowed one run.
